A Night at the Races is suitable for so many occasions including birthday or anniversary parties, social gatherings and get-togethers where the emphasis is on fun rather than raising money for any reason. With this in mind we can give you a wide choice of ideas including a variety of on-screen races from the best of British horse flat and jump racing and with Channel Four commentaries. To promote the party atmosphere, you may opt for a mixture of on-screen and ‘live’ racing with our battery operated ‘beasts’. These include a team of Elvis pigs, a team of Pig Idols (look out for Pigney Spears), Shaun the Sheep team and the very lovable ‘Wacin Wabbits’.
If you decide not to use real money for betting (and it’s legal to do either) we will organise your party into teams, giving each team an amount of fun money for the betting. There will also be occasions where teams can add to their betting money by answering trivia questions or responding to a Team Challenge. Each team will also be handed race cards that have been customised to your requirements (you can, for example, choose the names of the races). If you opt for the real thing then, with your agreement the minimum bet will be set at .50p or £1.00, the winning bettors from each race will share the tote takings or, if you prefer, we’ll keep some back to either help cover your costs or to give to your favourite charity.
These events can last for up to three hours, depending on the size of your party but the runners in the last race will usually be auctioned to the highest bidders. The winning owner generally determines the winning team. It’s customary for the Host to provide a small prize for each team member. We can, of course provide winners rosettes upon request.
